ABOUT THE HYPNOTHERAPIST

I have always been interested in human behaviour and how a small event can make such a big impact on our lives and I initially felt that the creative arts could make that impact. I obtained a media degree at Staffordshire University and then gained a Creative Director qualification at Artts International. Working within the creative industry for several years gave me the insight that a caring profession would be more suited to my personality. I then gained an NVQ 4 qualification as a Personal Adviser where I provided guidance and personal support to young people from the ages 12-25yrs old. After working in this area for eight years I made it my priority to find a therapy that could help restore an individual's inner belief and help make a difference to their life, quickly and effectively, and I felt that clinical hypnotherapy was the best therapy for this to be achieved. I gained a Certificate qualification and then a PgCert Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis (LCCH). The two year programme involved external practical and theoretical exams validated by the University of West London, which lead to an Associate membership with the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH), where only the best training establishments can be registered.

If you live in and around Plymouth and have an unwanted habit you can't break (smoking, comfort eating, insomnia) or need support in improving your performance (sport, speeches), reducing stress and anxiety or just want to feel better about yourself, Alexandra Houston who is a qualified clinical hypnotherapist may help you make the desired change, no matter how entrenched the condition.

Hypnotherapy simply recreates a natural state of mind by using relaxing suggestions to cause the critical part of the brain (the thinking analytical part) to subside and the subconscious part of the brain (where habits and beliefs are stored) to come to the fore, making it easier for new behaviours to be shaped and developed. You will remain in control at times with the ability to return to normal wakeful state at any point. The hypnotherapist merely helps to facilitate your experience and provide you with the ability to practice self-hypnosis after treatment.
The London College of Clinical Hypnosis was created specifically to provide intending practitioners of hypnosis and hypnotherapy with the disciplines, skills and tuition necessary to practice both soundly and ethically. LCCH helps gain wide recognition for the value of clinical hypnotherapy over a broad range of medical, psychological and somatic problems. It is the aim of this teaching body to provide comprehensive training facilities for future generations of students and to engage in extensive empirical research in this field. http://www.lcch.co.uk/
The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH) is a body whose aim is to promote and assure high standards in the profession of hypnotherapy. Membership demands strict standards of training and ethical practice. http://www.bsch.org.uk/

The PGCert one year program is at a Masters level which incorporates cognitive, behavioural, analytical and individual psychology approaches. The course is focused on identifying, refining and applying the psychological theories behind the major schools of psychotherapy to the hypnotic model. www.uwl.ac.uK
